We are thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the ‘Puppet Island-VII’ – a delightful online festival of puppet theatres!
Established in 2020 during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, ‘Puppet Island’ introduced a unique format where one artist and one puppet come together to perform online. It quickly became a much-needed platform for artists and audiences to connect.
The essence of ‘Puppet Island’ remains unchanged: one artist performs online with one or multiple puppets, whether they be marionettes, cane or shadow puppets, tablets, or even animated objects.
This year, the Festival’s theme is ‘November Plein air’ and will be hosted from the cosy
‘Kolokolnikov, 17’ gallery space in the heart of Moscow, courtesy of the ‘Coordinating Centre for Cultural Heritage’ Charitable Foundation.
Participants in the Festival include professional puppeteers, dancers, and drama theatres. The Festival’s professional jury will select winners in categories such as ‘Best Artist’, ‘Best Puppet’, and ‘Theatre I would like to visit’. At the same time, the audience can vote for their favourite in the ‘Public's Favourite’ category.
In addition to the competitive programme, the Festival will also feature a non-competitive programme presenting videos of puppet showcases and master classes by theatre professionals.
